Complete Impact Texas Drivers (ITD)

The ITD program is a free, one-hour informational video mandatory for all new adult drivers.

  • ITD for Ages 18-24 (ITYD – Impact Texas Young Drivers): Complete the online video at: https://impacttexasdrivers.dps.texas.gov/
  • ITAD for Ages 25+ (Impact Texas Adult Drivers): Complete the online video at: https://impacttexasdrivers.dps.texas.gov/itad/
  • Important: The ITD certificate must be completed within 90 days of taking the driving skills test, but before the driving test.

Step Three:
Gather Required Documents

Before visiting the DPS office, ensure you have all necessary paperwork.

You will need to bring proof of:

  • Identity, Residency, and Citizenship
  • Social Security Number
  • Certificates of course completion (Adult Driver’s Ed and ITD)

Step Four:
Visit a Texas DPS Office

Once your documents are ready, you must apply in person.

At the DPS office, you will:

  • Submit the DL-14A application
  • Provide biometric data and a photo
  • Pay the Driver’s License Application Fee (currently $33)

Pass Required Exams

You will be required to pass a series of tests to demonstrate your eligibility.

  • Vision Test: Mandatory for all applicants.
  • Written Knowledge Test: Required for most. May be waived for adults 25+ if they complete an approved Adult Driver Education course and the Impact Texas Adult Drivers (ITAD) course.
  • Driving Skills Test: Must be passed to prove your ability to drive safely.

Receive Your License

  • A Temporary Paper License will be issued immediately.

Your Official Driver’s License will be printed and mailed to you within 2-3 weeks.
