Key Skills Evaluated
During the Test:

  1. Vehicle Control and Maneuvers:
    • Parallel Parking: You must be able to park the vehicle successfully within a designated area.
    • Backing: Smoothly and safely driving the vehicle in reverse.
    • Three-Point Turn (Turnabout): Executing this turn in a confined space.

  2. Traffic Law Application:
    • Stop Signs and Signals: Full, complete stops at stop signs and obeying all traffic signals.
    • Lane Discipline: Maintaining the correct lane position and executing smooth, proper lane changes.
    • Speed Management: Driving within the posted speed limits and adjusting speed for conditions.

  3. Defensive Driving Habits:
    • Scanning and Observation: Continuously checking mirrors, blind spots, and intersections (often called “clearing intersections”).
    • Proper Turns: Signalling correctly and positioning the vehicle properly before turning

Required Documentation (Teens)

Teens must ensure they meet all state-mandated requirements before scheduling the official road test.

  • Must be 16+ and have held a permit for 6+ months.
  • Valid Texas Learner’s Permit.
  • DE-964 or PT certificate (Driver Education completion).
  • VOE form (Verification of Enrollment).
  • 30-hour parent log of supervised driving.

Impact Texas Teen Drivers certificate (ITTD), completed within 90 days of the test.
